Wir spielen Ball, Flöte, Roulette oder die Heldin. Die Zeit spielt uns in die Hände, wieder andere spielen auf Zeit. »Er will ja nur spielen«, heißt es, wenn die Lage scheinbar ungefährlich ist. Der Musiker Norbert Trawöger bringt John Cages »4’33’’« als radikale Komposition ins Spiel, um sich diesem von vielen Seiten zu nähern. Es kann um nichts gehen, aber nicht um weniger.
Für die Maus ist die Freundschaft mit der Krähe eine sehr riskante Angelegenheit, die nur mit Klugheit gelingen kann. So suggeriert es die Fabel aus dem altindischen »Pañcatantra«. As a cultural historian, Kenneth Marcus places this interdisciplinary study in historical context to examine why Eisler created this work and the significance that this work has for human rights today.
Plants have recently come to the fore in the humanities where the interest in the non-human fostered by ecocriticism, animal studies, and posthumanism has shifted to the vegetal. With increasing urgency, plants, their agency, and their cultural/natural impact are being studied by literary and cultural scholars. In order to radically rethink the status of the vegetal, this workshop investigates the place of plants in philosophy and literature, addressing both specific sites of the vegetal (such as the earth, the garden, or the middle) as well as the role of plants for our understanding of human-nature relations in the age of the so-called anthropocene. Particular emphasis will be placed upon questions of scale from an all-encompassing “planthroposcene” (proposed by anthropologist Natasha Myers) to minuscule parts of plants as a place for reflection in order to conceptualize the specific spatio-theoretical dimensions of the vegetal.

Wir leben in einer Medienkulturgesellschaft, in der uns die Medien weitestgehend die Agenda für unsere Wirklichkeitsentwürfe vorgeben – bis hin zu den Artefakten der Werbekörper. Aber unsere Versuche, Medienkulturgesellschaften auf den Begriff zu bringen, sind verwirrend vielfältig und diffus. S.J. Schmidt versucht, eine kohärente Beschreibungskultur für eine plausible Kulturbeschreibung zu entwerfen und an prägnanten Erscheinungen der Medienkultur zu erproben.
