It aims to demonstrate how this subject haunts France’s colonial history in Algeria, and how it is currently perceived and discussed locally. The notion of a »continuous spectre of genocide« highlights both the ongoing threat of extermination and the variations in its manifestations.

Im Hôpital psychiatrique de Blida-Joinville (HPB) – heute das algerische Hôpital Frantz Fanon – wurde in der Zeit, als Frantz Fanon hier zwischen 1953 und 1956 als Abteilungsarzt tätig war, verstärkt die Sozialtherapie eingeführt. Bekannt als psychiatrische Reformpraxis im Rahmen der so genannten institutionellen Psychotherapie ging und geht es hierbei um soziale und kulturelle Tätigkeiten, in die Bewohner*innen in ihrem Klinikalltag eingebunden wurden.
